《ゲルギエフ&ミュンヘン・フィルの、リンツ、聖フローリアン修道院でのブルックナー・ライヴ》ミュンヘン・フィル自主制作録音盤、2015年9月より首席指揮者に就任したワレリー・ゲルギエフとミュンヘン・フィルならではの重厚なパワーときらめくような優雅さ、美感をも引き出す練達のゲルギエフの熱血指揮に応えるべく、弦も管も打楽器ももてる最高のものを出し尽くした集中力と緊迫感によって、深く熱く濃密となったこの新コンビの音楽は非常に高い評価を得ています。前年に収録され発売済みの「交響曲第1&3番」では、「伝統的なブルックナー特有の神秘性や宗教性を抜けだし、素朴な美しさと推進力が融合された画期的な解釈」。また「教会の残響と各楽器が絶妙なバランスで、まったく混濁することのない録音」と演奏・録音の面でも高い評価を得ています。この録音では、CPOやBISなどのレーベルで高い評価を受けるエンジニアStephan Reh氏が担当。マスタリングは、ECMの監修の下で新マスタリングを担当し、キース・ジャレットの諸作にかかわってきたエンジニア、クリストフ・スティッケル氏が担当しています。「交響曲第9番」は、第3楽章までの未完に終わっており、ブルックナーは献辞として楽譜に「愛する神に捧ぐ」(Dem lieben Gott)と記載しました。未完成ながら、この曲はまるで宇宙の音楽のような圧倒的世界が展開されています。ゲルギエフは、ブルックナー自身がオルガニストを務めた聖フローリアン教会のオルガンと合唱の響きとオーストリアの豊かな自然が反映された敬虔としていることを映し出しています。この壮大なサウンドによる音楽絵巻を、緊張感を保ちながらスケール豊かに演奏されています。

Performing the 1951 Leopold Nowak edition of Anton Bruckners unfinished Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic continue their cycle of the symphonies, which have received considerable critical praise for their power and authority. How much of this is due to Gergievs insights and how much to the orchestras tradition may be debated, because much more of the conductors personality is apparent in his recordings of Russian repertoire with his Mariinsky Orchestra, while he seems to let the Munich musicians lead the way in Bruckner, a mainstay of its programming established in 1897 by Bruckners student, conductor Ferdinand Lowe. Indeed, this performance of the original three-movement version is traditional to its core, and Brucknerians will be hard-pressed to find anything amiss in either the interpretation or the playing. Likewise, they wont find anything daring or original, trademarks of Gergievs style. However -- except for recordings of attempted completions of the Finale, none of which have entered the standard repertoire yet -- the vast majority of recordings of the Ninth stick to the same general pacing, tempos, and phrasing, and Gergiev hews to the conventional line, unsurprising but reliable and reverent.
