コリリアーノの問題作を遂に現地上演、映像付き

1991年、メトロポリタン歌劇場の委嘱により書かれた《ヴェルサイユの幽霊》。「セビリアの理髪師」「フィガロの結婚」に続く第三作として、ボーマルシェによって書かれた「罪ある母」を下地に、舞台をフランス革命後の荒廃したヴェルサイユ宮殿に置き換え、マリー・アントワネットやルイ16世、そして当のボーマルシェらの幽霊のほか、オペラでもお馴染みのフィガロ、スザンナなどが入り乱れて繰り広げられるシュールな物語。ドタバタながらも原作が持つ重い内容も反映しています。アメリカの「グリマーグラス・フェスティバル」とヴェルサイユの共同制作となっているこのアルバムでは、アメリカやカナダを中心とした歌手陣とヴェルサイユのミュージシャンが共演。まさに"作品の舞台"となっている舞台に掛けられるという、類まれな状況を生み出しました。世に出ているディスクの内容からバロック・オペラの印象が強いヴェルサイユ王室歌劇場が、シンセサイザーを含むモダン楽器の響きに震えているのも面白いところ。国を超えたアーティストたちの力演をお楽しみいただけます。
