2015年にノルウェーの名門オーケストラ、ベルゲン・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団の首席指揮者に就任し、絶賛されたエディンバラ国際音楽祭や7度の国際ツアー、数々のレコーディングを通じてベルゲン・フィルの魅力を世界に伝えてきた次代を担うマエストロ、エドワード・ガードナー。2021年9月からはユロフスキの後任としてロンドン・フィルの首席指揮者という重要ポストに就きましたが、ベルゲン・フィルとの契約も2年間延長し、2023年まで首席指揮者を継続しています。録音でも、ベルリオーズやシェーンベルクなど、とりわけ合唱を伴う大編成作品で高い評価を得、前作「シベリウスの《ペレアスとメリザンド》」(RCHSA5217)もレコード芸術「特選盤」に選ばれ話題を呼んだガードナーとベルゲン・フィルの充実コンビ。ニュー・アルバムは、ノルウェーの注目ソプラノ、マリ・エーリクスモン(マリ・エリクスモーン)との共演によるブリテンとカントループのオーケストラル・ソング集!

マリ・エーリクスモンはパリ・オペラ=コミック座やジュネーヴ大劇場、フランクフルト歌劇場、ベルリン・コーミッシェ・オーパー、ミラノ・スカラ座などで成功を収めてきたノルウェーのライジング・スター。ノルウェー音楽アカデミーとコペンハーゲン・オペラ・アカデミーで学んだ後、パリ国立高等音楽院でイザベル・ギヨーに師事し、フランス語歌唱をマスター。「フランス語は母国語ではないが、フランス語で歌うときはいつもくつろいでいて、フランス語への愛情を育んでいる」と語るエーリクスモンが、ヴィクトル・ユゴーやポール・ヴェルレーヌの詩によるブリテンの「4つのフランスの歌」、アルチュール・ランボーの詩集による「イリュミナシオン」、そしてカントループの代表作である、オーヴェルニュ地方の民謡を元にした「オーヴェルニュの歌」の3つのフランス語管弦楽歌曲を優美に歌います。もちろん、ガードナーの敏腕指揮のもと流麗な弦楽を響かせるベルゲン・フィル、CHANDOSの優秀録音(SACDハイブリッド盤)にも注目です。
