1996年香港生まれのティファニー・プーン。幼少時より類い稀な才能を発揮し、8歳でジュリアード音楽院のプレカレッジに入学。その後10歳でソロデビューを成功させた天才肌。これまでに名門コロンビア大学、ジュリアード音楽院で学び、エマニュエル・アックス、ジョゼフ・カリクシュタインなど名ピアニストに師事しています。

2014年、アメリカのナショナルヤングアーツに選出。以後、オランダ、ドイツ、オーストリア、アメリカ、カナダ、シンガポール、香港など、世界各地のコンサートツアーで大成功を収めております。現在ソロ活動を中心に室内楽にも積極的に取り組んでおり、その演奏活動をYouTubeやInstagramに投稿。同年代からも絶大な人気を博します。

「子供の情景」、「アラベスク」、「ダーヴィト同盟舞曲集」というシューマンを代表するピアノ独奏作品。シューマンが数多くの作品を書き始めた20代後半の意欲に満ちたピアノ作品であり、各曲全く個性の異なる名曲です。全18曲からなるダーヴィト同盟舞曲集。ダーヴィト同盟とは、ロマン派の闘士を自任するシューマンがペリシテ人と戦ったダヴィデの物語に託し、当時の俗物主義に対抗する自分を表現した架空の同盟のことを意味し、ヨハン・ヴォルフガング・フォン・ゲーテの孫、ワルター・フォン・ゲーテに献呈されています。

ブックレットにはプーンが日記(ダイアリーズ)のように仕立て、自身のポエムと共に各作品について掲載。シューマンが作曲した時期と同じ20代後半のプーンが奏でる演奏は等身大。録音場所はゲルハルト・オピッツなど世界的演奏家の名録音が誕生したノイマルクトのライツターデルです。独プレス。180g重量盤。

Physical buyers of the album will get reflections from Tiffany Poon about "feeling all the feels" and other similarly general concepts (the diaries, apparently, are hers rather than Schumanns), but this young pianist turns out to have a real feel for Schumann, and this release, her first on the PentaTone label, promises much. There are dozens, perhaps hundreds, of available recordings of the three Schumann works here, but Poon succeeds in standing out from the crowd. The most remarkable performance of all is one of the most popular works, Kinderszenen, Op. 15, and within that, one can sample the single most beloved Scene of Childhood, Traumerei, Op. 15/7. Poon, in a world full of heavily rubato-laden interpretations of these pieces, takes Robert Schumanns advice to Clara to heart and plays them not far from fixed tempos, but there is nothing dispassionate about her performance, which makes a great deal out of very small gestures. Later in the program, which builds in intensity as it proceeds, Poon unleashes some drama in the Davidsbundlertanze, Op. 6, works that are close to Schumanns heart and expressive of his fantasy life. Even here, everything is under perfect control. It has been a very long time since such freshly conceived and brilliantly executed Schumann has graced CD players and hard drives, and audiences responded by placing this album on classical best-seller lists in early 2024. ~ James Manheim
