若きピアノ界の革命児アレクサンダー・マロフェーエフが、ソニークラシカル契約第1弾となるデビューアルバム『忘れられた調べ―ロシア・ピアノ作品集―』をリリース。13歳でチャイコフスキー国際コンクール(ジュニア部門)を制した実力は世界が認めるところで、「ロシアの天才」「ピアノ界の革命」と各国メディアが絶賛。ウィーン、パリ、ハンブルクなど主要ホールでのリサイタルをはじめ、今後はアメリカ・ツアー、2026年の東京・春・音楽祭出演も控え、最注目のピアニストです。
本作では亡命し故郷から離れて生涯を終えた4人のロシア作曲家に焦点を当て、グラズノフ、グリンカ、メトネル、ラフマニノフの作品を収録。根底に流れる"ノスタルジア"をテーマに、メトネルの代表作《忘れられた調べ》やラフマニノフのソナタ第2番などを、卓越した技巧と深い詩情で描き出します。

アレクサンダー・マロフェーエフ(2001年モスクワ生まれ)は、13歳で「若手音楽家のためのチャイコフスキー国際コンクール」を制し注目を集めたピアニスト。以降、世界主要オーケストラや著名指揮者と共演し、国際音楽祭にも多数出演。超絶技巧と深い表現力で"新世代のヴィルトゥオーゾ"として高い評価を受ける。2022年のフランクフルト放送響とのラフマニノフ《ピアノ協奏曲第3番》の演奏は各メディアで絶賛された。

On Forgotten Melodies, Alexander Malofeev lives up to his reputation as Pianist of the Century. The album brings together works by Glinka, Medtner, Glazunov, and Rachmaninov, who were all born in Russia and died far from their homeland. With more than two dozen pieces on offer, every listener will find something to enjoy. The album opens with pieces by Glinka that will appeal to lovers of Chopin due to their combination of serenity and occasional passages that sparkle with virtuosic figuration. Malofeev plays them with an easy joy and sense of rubato. The heart of the album is the eight-movement Forgotten Melodies I by Medtner, composed in the early 1900s. Malofeevs neo-Romantic sensibility is perfectly suited to this music, which updates the styles of Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Schumann while adding modal harmonies and pleasing touches of dissonance. The suite starts with a single-movement sonata that is episodic in structure and rich in musical material. Medtner wanders through improvisatory passages before turning to dramatic gestures reminiscent of Chopin or Liszt and dissonant contrapuntal writing that provides variety. The third movement, "Danza festiva," is a series of playful episodes that interrupt and jostle each other in a way that recalls the joyous, rambunctious energy of Schumanns Carnaval. The set of eight closes with "Alla reminiscenza," a piece of exceptional beauty in the manner of a nocturne, its wandering right-hand melody accompanied by deep, bell-like bass chords. Malofeev plays Glazunov beautifully as well, but it is in the Rachmaninov pieces that his singular ability shines. He manages to offer a new, grippingly dramatic interpretation of the famous Prelude in C sharp minor, first by bringing out the top line of the powerful, ringing chords of the first section with a clarity and expressiveness that feels freshly discovered. In the middle section, with its racing melodies, the pianist makes the left-hand countermelody audible, giving listeners a chance to hear this well-known texture in a new way. Rachmaninovs Second Sonata is similarly breathtaking: the tumultuous opening movements hurrying lines are handled with complete command, the second movement transports the listener to a state of serene reverie, and the finales booming bass and scintillating final runs are dispatched with thrilling precision. A lesser-known side of Rachmaninov is revealed in the transcription of "Lilacs," with its Debussyan delicacy, graceful pentatonic figurations, and melancholy perfectly balanced in Malofeev’s hands. ~ Jane Harrison
