Kill the King

After more than 25 years that earned him the title of "King of the South" in many circles of rap, Kill the King is Atlanta rapper T.I.s 12th studio album and reportedly his last. He uses a wide range of styles and genre adaptations across the records 18 tracks to synopsize his lengthy artistic journey, veering into nostalgic ruminations on moments like the slow-grooving "Represent a Time" and the autobiographical "Where Im From," the latter being a pop-friendly song created with help from Anderson .Paak. T-Pain, Jeezy, and 2 Chainz make "Dope Boys Academy" nostalgic in a less narrative way, recreating the slick hooks and distinctive thick bass of a track trap meticulously dialed in to a 2008 vintage. T.I. sounds inspired, running a victory lap on standout tracks like "Mr. Him," the banging "Let Em Know," and the anthemic "Trauma Bond." Kill the King approaches tour-de-force levels of presentation with a roster of special guests that includes Summer Walker, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, The-Dream, Usher, Young Dro, and many others. Its both a long look back at a legendary run and a fitting farewell, with songs that contend with some of T.I.s best work. ~ TiVo Staff
