Super Furry Animals（スーパー・ファーリー・アニマルズ）｜20周年記念エディション・プロジェクトに、大傑作『Rings Around the World』が最新リマスター音源で登場

一筋縄ではいかない一捻りも二捻りもあるポップ・センスでUKロック・シーンに独自のポジションを築いている、ウェールズ出身のインディー・ロック・グループ、SUPER FURRY ANIMALS（スーパー・ファーリー・アニマルズ）。2016年からスタートしている彼らの20周年記念エディション・プロジェクトに、また新たな1作が加わる。今回リリースとなるのは、通算5作目のスタジオ・アルバムであり、バンドにとって最も商業的な成功を収めた大傑作でもある『RINGS AROUND THE WORLD』の20周年記念エディションだ。

全編ウェールズ語で歌われた前作『MWNG』につづけて2001年にリリースされた『RINGS AROUND THE WORLD』は、ポップス、プログレ、パンク、ジャングル、エレクトロニカ、テクノ、デスメタルなど、ありとあらゆる音楽的要素が盛り込まれた多彩なアルバムである。Epicに移籍してからの第1弾作品となる本作は、1999年発表の『GUERRILLA』の実験的な雰囲気を踏襲しながら、歌を全面に押し出し、サウンド的な広がりを見せたアルバムでもある。全英3位に輝いたこのアルバムからは、全英シングル・チャートで14位を獲得した「Juxtapozed With U」が生まれている。この他にもポール・マッカートニーをフィーチャーした「Receptacle For The Respectable」をはじめ、軽快なテクノポップとハードコアパンクの間を行き来する「Sidewalk Serfer Girl」や、陰鬱なトリップホップ・ナンバー「(A) Touch Sensitive」、そしてドラムン・ベースのカオスへ聴くものを陥れる「No Sympathy」など彼らの実験的な側面を探求した楽曲が並んでいる。ジョン・ケイルもカメオ出演を果たしている本作は、2001年にはマーキュリー音楽賞にもノミネートされている。また世界初のオーディオとDVDの同時発売という点でも注目を集めた作品でもある。

今回発売される20周年記念エディションには、アルバムのオリジナル・マスター・テープからの最新リマスター音源を収録。音的実験を追求し続けるSUPER FURRY ANIMALSの大傑作が新たな音像で蘇る！
