【千円生活】オートクラッツ セレクション
前作『Animal』の大ヒットで、新世代ダンス・ミュージックの騎手として一気に花開いたロンドンのロッキン・エレクトロ・ユニット、オートクラッツ。待望のセカンド・アルバムが、ピーター・フック（ニュー・オーダー）、アンドリュー・イネス（プライマル・スクリーム）、ジャグズ・クーナー（アルーフ、セイバーズ・オブ・パラダイス）、ユーバーゾーンなど豪華ゲスト＆制作人を迎え完成。疾走感溢れる、よりロック色を強めた内容で、前作に負けない盛り上がりに期待ができそうです。今回はそんな新作リリース間近のセレクションをお届けします。
【バイオ】
ロンドンをベースに活動するダンス・ユニット。メンバーはラッセル（マシーン、ギター：写真右）、デヴィッド（ヴォーカル、ギター、マシーン：写真左）。クラフトワーク、ダフト・パンク、アンダーワールドに影響を受けた2人の音楽は、瞬く間に話題となり、フランスの大人気レーベル＜Kitsune＞と契約。デビューEP『ダウン＆アウト・イン・ロンドン＆パリス』がEPとしては異例のヒットを記録し、一躍ダンス・ミュージック界の新たなるスターとして脚光を浴びる。アルバム・デビュー前にも関わらず、2008年のグラストンベリー・フェスティヴァルのメイン・ステージに出演。また、アンダーワールドのロンドン公演のサポート・アクトに抜擢されるなど、そのライヴ・パフォーマンスにも定評がある。2009年6月、ほぼ全楽曲ヴォーカル入りのエレクトロ・ロッキン・チューン満載のデビュー・アルバム『アニマル』をリリースし、同年9月、プロディジーフェス＠幕張メッセで来日公演を実施。

Queens of the Stone Age 『Songs For The Deaf』
最高に荒々しく、そして急上昇するようなジョシュ・オムのヴォーカル。このエネルギーが大好きだ。デイヴ・グロールのヴォーカルとマーク・ラネガンのヴォーカル参加アルバム、これが僕にとってこのバンドを最高に堪能できる時間だ。人生のトップ10入りアルバム。爆音で聞け！
Brutal and nasty laced with soaring vocal melodies from Josh Homme. I love the energy and pace of this record and with Dave Grohl on drums and extra vocals from Mark Lanegan, this for me is Queens finest hour. Easily in my top 10 of favourite albums ever. Should be played LOUD!!!!
Sonic Youth 『Dirty』
ソニック・ユースが大好きだ。その中でもこのアルバムが一番好き。スーパー・ノイジーな1曲目「100％」からレイドバックした暗黒の「Shoot」まで、何てクールなアルバムなんだろう。政治問題、性差別、人種差別といったものを扱いながらも、なお楽しんで聴くことができる。サーストン・ムーアとキム・ゴードンによる、クレヴァーな歌詞と素晴らしいヴォーカル。
Love Sonic Youth and for me this is the best album they've done. From the super noisy '100%', to the laid-back darkness of 'Shoot' its such a cool record. Not many bands can deal with politics, sexism and racism and still remain an enjoyable listen. Clever lyrics and superb vocals from Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon.
Hot Chip 『One Life Stand』
美しくも悲しく、そして親密なソングライティングには気絶しそうだ。このアルバムは最もヒットしたひとつで、だからこれが好きなんだ。ヴィンス・クラーク・スタイルのメロディアスなシンセとヴォーカル・ハーモニーは完璧だ。本当に素晴らしいエモーショナルなアルバムだ。
Beautiful, sad and intimate with stunning songwriting. This album is one of their most pop and I love them for it. I love the Vince Clarke style synth melodies and the vocal harmonies are perfect. A truly great record with real emotion.
The Chemical Brothers 『Surrender』
彼らはぼくの最も好きなアーティストで、このアルバムは心底大好きなアルバム。「Let Forever Be with Noel Gallagher」「Out of Control with Bernard Sumner」「Asleep from the Day with Hope Sandoval」といった強力なゲストと素晴らしい曲。失敗しようもない作品だね。それに「Hey Boy, Hey Girl」は最初聞いたときにぶっ飛んだ記憶があるけど、いまだにそんな感じになる。最初から最後まで圧倒的だ。
The Chems are one of my favourite artists ever and I LOVE this album so much. 'Let Forever Be' with Noel Gallagher, 'Out of Control' with Bernard Sumner and 'Asleep from the Day' with Hope Sandoval??? How can this album fail? All this plus the insane dance-floor anthem 'Hey Boy, Hey Girl', it blew me away when I first heard it and still does. Sublime from start to finish.
Public Image Ltd 『First Issue』
彼らのデビュー・アルバムにして、ポスト・パンクを創ったアルバム。実験と発見、爽快で興味深い体験だ。ジョン・ライドンはいまだに音楽界で最もクールで重要なアーティストで、僕にとっては、最も偉大な生きる伝説だ。
The first album for Public Image Limited and the album which pretty much invented post-punk. Experimenting and inventing, its such an invigorating and interesting listen. John Lydon is still one of the coolest and most important figures in music and for me the greatest living Englishmen. I saw them play live when they reformed last year and it was two of the best hours of my life.
Radiohead 『The Bends』
最高なのはこのアルバムだけじゃないけど、このアルバムが自分にとって一番のアルバムだ。1曲目の「Planet Telex」が始まると同時に、最後の「Street Spirit」が終わるまで、ぼくは立ちすくのみだ。まさに最初から最後まで崇高なアルバムだ。
Not only my favourite Radiohead album, I think it may be my favourite album ever. As soon as I hear the opening bars of Planet Telex I'm always entirely transfixed until the last note of Street Spirit. It just really is sublime from start to finish.
