1999年2月23日にオリジナル・リリースされ、エミネムをアンダーグラウンドな存在から一気にスターダムへと押し上げた大ヒット・アルバム『The Slim Shady LP』が、ボーナス・トラック、レア・トラック、アカペラ・ヴァージョン、フリースタイル、インストゥルメンタル・ヴァージョンをのエクスパンデッド・エディション2枚組CDと3枚組LPで登場。

1996年にインディからリリースしたファースト・アルバム『Infinite』に続くメジャー・デビュー・アルバムで、プロデュースはDr. Dre、Bass Brothers、Eminem。そしてリリックの内容の大部分が、1997年発表のEP『Slim Shady EP』にも登場したエミネムの別人格="Slim Shady"によるもの。また、RIAAにより4Xプラチナム・アルバムと認定され、全世界で1,800万枚以上のセールスを記録。
