PANTERA（パンテラ）／DAMAGEPLAN（ダメージプラン）／HELLYEAH（ヘルイェー）のドラマー Vinnie Paul（ヴィニー・ポール）が逝去

PANTERA／DAMAGEPLAN／HELLYEAHなどのドラマーとして知られる、Vinnie PaulことVincent Paul Abbottが6月22日に亡くなったことが発表された。享年54歳。

Vinnieは実弟のDimebag Darrell Abbott（Gt）と1981年にPANTERAを結成。ヴォーカリストのPhil Anselmo（Vo）が加入後にバンドの知名度が上昇し、1994年リリースのアルバム『Far Beyond Driven（邦題：脳殺）』ではビルボードのトップ200チャートで1位を獲得。そのヘヴィなサウンドのドラミングは後続バンドに多大な影響を与えた。

PANTERAが2003年に解散すると、Abbott兄弟はDAMAGEPLANを結成。アルバム『New Found Power』をリリースするも、2004年12月8日にDimebag Darrell（Gt）がライヴ中に射殺され、Vinnieも肩に銃弾を受けるという悲劇によりバンドは活動終了を余儀なくされた。

その後、Vinnieは2006年にMUDVAYNEのヴォーカリスト Chad Gray、NOTHINGFACEのギタリスト Tom MaxwellらとHELLYEAHを結成。これまでに5枚のアルバムをリリースしていた。

突然の訃報を受け、多くのミュージシャンがコメントを発表している。
